McCain Foods will close its production plant in Colton, California, laying off about 100 workers.

The processing facility produces roasted, caramelized and sauteed frozen fruits and vegetables, which are sold under a variety of brands and are commonly used as an ingredient in other food products.

The company announced the closure in a statement but did not give a reason or a date it would shutter.

As of January 30, the layoffs were not listed on the website of the California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Companies who lay off large numbers of employees are required to notify the state 60 days before the layoffs take place.

Jeff DeLapp, McCain Foods President North America in a statement:

“All of our employees will be treated fairly and respectfully.”

“Customer demands are evolving.”
McCain Foods USA has production facilities in Idaho, Maine, Nebraska, Washington and Wisconsin. McCain Foods USA has its headquarters in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois

In October 2018, the Colton facility was the center of a large precautionary recall of frozen roasted vegetables manufactured in the plant due to possible contamination with Salmonella or Listeria.

McCain Foods USA did not link the shutdown of the factory to the recall.
