As part of the Potato Council’s ‘Fight against blight’ campaign, the mapping of late blight outbreaks has demonstrated outgrade piles remain a significant source of blight in potato crops.
Potato outgrade piles are the source of five per cent of all blight outbreaks, according to the Potato Council. In an ideal situation, there would be no outgrade piles but where they do exist it is essential they are managed to prevent the spread of blight.
