Frito-Lay recognizes safe drivers

PepsiCo's Frito-Lay North America business unit today recognized 110 over-the-road (OTR) drivers in the U.S. and Canada who have reached the career milestone of driving more than one million, two million or three million miles accident-free.

"Frito-Lay owns and operates one of the largest private fleets in North America,"said Bill Simkins, manager, National Fleet Safety, Frito-Lay North America. "It's also one of the safest because of our training programs and the world-class drivers who make safety their number one priority. We commend this year's inductees for their dedication, and for keeping themselves and the families we share the roads with every day accident-free."

Frito-Lay's Million Milers possess high-level safety skills honed through extensive training and adherence to good driving behaviors. Frito-Lay utilizes skills maneuvering courses, advanced driving simulators and team collaborations on best practices to create a positive safety culture and to help its drivers maintain their skills.

On average it takes a Frito-Lay OTR driver about 12 years to reach the one million mile mark. The company now has more than 550 active Million Milers on the roads daily.

This year, six drivers achieved more than 3 million accident-free miles, our largest Three Million Miler class to-date. Through the Million Milers program, and the company's extensive safety efforts, Frito-Lay has seen a 70% decline in collisions since 1999.

The Million Milers, along with their families, were recognized by Frito-Lay's top executives at an annual gala at the company's headquarters in Plano, Texas.
