Potato Industry invited to attend opening of new Sutton Bridge research facility
UK Potato growers are invited to attend the official opening of a new 600,000 research facility at the Potato Council's Sutton Bridge Crop Storage Research (SBCSR).
Government spokesperson for energy and climate change Lord Taylor of Holbeach and Potato Council chairman Allan Stevenson are opening the new stores - which lie beside the River Nene in Spalding, south Lincolnshire - at the opening event on 2 September.
There, growers will be able to attend seminars on issues such as long-term energy savings and sustainability as well as look around the new construction.
Topics on the agenda include a review of the impact of climate change on potato storage by Bangor University's Professor Gareth Edwards-Jones, an industry perspective on sustainability by Branston's Dr David Nelson and "optimisation of storage costs"by Jay Wootton from Andersons The Farm Business Consultants.
