Following six years of unprecedented growth of Idaho® potatoes into international markets, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) has hired Amanda Albers as its first International Marketing Manager and in addition, has established new offices in Mexico, Hong Kong and Malaysia. The main objective of the IPC’s expanded International Division will be to mine opportunities in foreign markets and provide assistance to Idaho® potato shippers wishing to export fresh potatoes overseas.
United States fresh potato exports have reached an all-time high of $150 million dollars annually and that number is expected to increase rapidly over the next several years. With Idaho being the largest potato-producing state in the country, it’s more critical than ever that the IPC provide resources to Idaho shippers to help them capitalize on the growing worldwide demand for fresh potatoes. Today, through concerted efforts, Idaho commands 33 percent of the Mexican potato market and exports fresh potatoes to Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Central America.
