Supermarkets in the Netherlands have pledged to switch to cashless methods of payment, such as the PIN system, over the coming years making it no longer possible for customers to pay with coins or notes.
During a general meeting of the Dutch CBL (Central Office for Food Trade), all members of the organisation said that in future they would only install equipment at point of sale which did not take cash. The aim is have cashless systems in supermarkets by 2014.
