McCain Foods outsources accounting functions to India: 25 jobs cut in Florenceville

McCain Foods is axing 25 jobs in New Brunswick as part of a move to outsource accounting functions to India.

The head of McCain Foods (Canada) says the outsourcing of the jobs is part of the company's efforts to become more competitive globally.

The Canadian division of the global frozen foods firm is restructuring its finance department and is consolidating some of its functions as a part of a plan to create a new McCain Business Services Centre in India.

In a statement, Fred Schaeffer, president and CEO of McCain Foods (Canada), said his company is moving towards outsourcing in order to "level the playing field"with other multinational firms who have already taken similar action.

"In this rapidly-changing, dynamic marketplace, it is imperative that we do whatever is necessary to help us remain competitive,"Schaeffer said in a news release.

The fact that McCain Foods moves its financing department to India also leads to job losses at other McCain locations, such as Scarborough, UK.
