Othello French fry plants reap recognition

Othello’s Simplot potato plant didn’t set out to win the company’s first Food Group Operational Excellence Award.
But plant manager Steve Anderson can’t say he’s sorry they got it.

“Our philosophy is to do everything as excellently as we can,” he said. “We did not purposely set out to win an award, but it’s nice to get an award that recognizes that you’re executing well for your customers.”

Six other Simplot plants were in the running: plants in Moses Lake;Nampa, Idaho;Caldwell, Idaho;Aberdeen, Idaho;Grand Forks, N.D.;Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
As for Othello’s other potato plant, McCain Foods was recently recognized by the American Heart Association. The Heart Association says that American employers are facing ever-increasing healthcare costs and while simultaneously facing productivity losses to the tune of about $225.8 billion a year and attributes employee health and that of their families as the root of the problem.

The heart association offers employers a chance to make employee health and wellness a priority through its Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program.
The association recognized the Othello McCain’s as a Platinum Level Start! Fit-Friendly Company.
