McCain Foods Limited announced today its intent to invest C$150 million for the construction of a new french fry plant in the Pacific Northwest. The facility will be designed to produce French fries and potato specialties primarily for food service and quick service restaurant customers in the United States and international markets.
“Our presence in the Pacific Northwest positions us very well for US domestic and international growth,” commented Dale Morrison, president and CEO. “The region is ideally suited for our business with optimal potato growing conditions, an established grower community and a low-cost distribution source point for overseas markets. The investment we are making reinforces our commitment to our core business and signals our confidence in the growing demand for McCain products in the US, and in new and emerging markets.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008 pending final approvals. Start-up of the facility is anticipated for late summer 2009.
McCain did not disclose whether the factory would be build in Idaho, Oregon or Washington
