A group led by a local businessman wants to buy foundering Jays Foods Inc. to keep the snackmaker and its production and jobs in Chicago.
But Jays' owner, Ubiquity Brands, had resisted working with the group, called Southhorn LLC, ignoring its requests for financial information needed to make an offer until Friday when queried by the Chicago Sun-Times, said Wallace Sims Jr., the retired banker leading the interested bunch. Wallace unsuccessfully bid for the company in 1994.
