Two local farms are joining forces for another Fill Your Boots Event, allowing Islanders to pick their own free potatoes straight from Island potato storages. The giveaway aims to build on the success of the Fill Your Boots events of the last three years.

Event founders G Visser and Sons in Orwell have partnered with Monaghan Farms (Norboro), with support from the PEI Potato Board. The event will be held on Saturday, March 1st, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will mark the end of Prince Edward Island’s Potato Lover’s Month.

Participants should bring a bucket, bag, boot, or any creative storage option to fill with as many potatoes as possible. While the potatoes are free, the farms encourage attendees to optionally donate to the local food bank, supporting those in need within the community.

This initiative provides free potatoes and offers a chance for Islanders to engage with local farmers and learn about the complexities of farming. Since the first event in 2022, eight Island farms have opened their doors, welcoming over 7,500 visitors who gathered approximately 250,000 pounds of potatoes. The farms subsequently raised CAD 17,000 (USD 12,580) for local food banks.

Randy Visser of G. Visser and Sons:

"We are thrilled to host “Fill Your Boots" again this year. This event allows us to engage with our fellow Islanders around a shared love for potatoes. It guarantees a fantastic experience, ensuring that everyone learns about agriculture, takes home some delicious PEI Potatoes, and supports local food banks in the process."
