Empowering 2000+ Farmers in India: Large-Scale Campaign for Potato Cultivation in Madhya Pradesh

Siddhi Vinayak Agri Processing Pvt. Ltd. organized a large-scale training campaign for farmers across the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. The event witnessed participation from over 2,000 farmers, with the aim of educating them about the benefits of diversifying from wheat cultivation to potato farming and importance of new seed varieties.

Organized by Siddhi Vinayak Agri Processing Pvt. Ltd., the campaign highlighted the economic advantages of crop diversification and introduced new climate-smart potato varieties that has potential for higher yields and returns. 

The meetings were led by Hemant Gaur, Managing Director of Siddhi Vinayak Agri, who emphasized the changing landscape of potato cultivation in Madhya Pradesh. He stressed the significance of adopting advanced potato varieties, which are not only more climate-resilient but also more profitable than traditional varieties. 

A key highlight of the meetings was the discussion around two new potato varieties introduced by Siddhi Vinayak Agri – Ganesh and Winner. 

Siddhi Vinayak Agri has partnered with Agrico, one of the world’s leading companies in potato seed production. This collaboration has enabled the development of high-quality potato varieties of India, specifically suited to local climatic conditions. Through this partnership, SV Agri has been able to offer superior, disease-resistant potato seeds, ensuring better yields for farmers. 

Ganesh is a climate-resilient processing and table potato variety, ideal for storage and long-term market demand. It I medium duration (80-90 days) variety, with yield potential 28-30 metric tons per hectare. 

With its cream-colored skin and smooth texture, it shows lower TPOD and medium dry matter (22-23%), making it perfect for processing industries. "Ganesh" also has a superior fry appearance and can be stored for up to 8 months without deterioration, making it highly attractive to farmers and processors. 

Winner, another climate-smart variety, has shown exceptional results in both yield and storability. It matures in 110-115 days and has yield potential of up to 35-40 metric tons per hectare. Tubers are round, their skin is smooth and golden, the mace is light yellow. It has solid percentage in range of 22%-23%. Known for its golden-coloured chips and high fry quality, "Winner" has gained popularity among farmers and processors across Madhya Pradesh. 

The training sessions also focused on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), providing farmers with practical insights to improve crop quality, reduce production costs, and increase productivity. Farmers learned about the shorter growing cycle of potatoes and how switching from wheat can lead to higher income, addressing climate and market risks.
