In Brazil, potato prices have continued to decline, and although the drop has been moderate in recent weeks, it is expected that they will continue to fall as higher yields are seen in the harvests.

Last week, the price of the special Ágata type potato dropped, averaging BRL 146.75/sc (USD 29.26) of 25 kg wholesale in São Paulo (SP), a decrease of 12.42% compared to the previous week. In Rio de Janeiro (RJ), the price fell to BRL 133.61/sc (USD 27.26), a decrease of 18.14%. In Belo Horizonte (MG), the price decreased to BRL 144.09/sc (USD 29.39), representing a 29% decrease.

The reduction was continuous throughout the week and is attributed to the intensification of the winter harvest and the improvement in productivity in the various areas harvesting at the moment, a scenario that was already expected.

For the coming weeks, the downward trend continues, given that the regions continue to intensify the harvest, including expectations of continuous improvement in productivity, at least until August/September.

So far, the price drop is quite timid and much lower than expected, as the regions still have productivity well below the historical average. Additionally, other markets that could still offer products have brought forward their offer schedules due to low productivity, good prices, and to avoid compromising quality.
