Brasil: precios sensibles al clima
Last week in Brazil, prices were driven upward by the weekend rains, highlighting the strong demand and market sensitivity to supply disruptions.
The average price of the special Agate-type potato was BRL 110.15 (USD 22.20) per 25 kg sack wholesale in São Paulo (SP), a 9.60% increase from the previous week; BRL 105.00 (USD 21.15) per sack in Belo Horizonte (MG), a 17.94% increase; and BRL 109.25 (USD 22.00) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), a 12.85% increase.
The price hike was due to the rains on Saturday (24th) in southwestern São Paulo and Sunday (25th) in Vargem Grande do Sul (SP), which made harvesting difficult and limited supply at the start of the week.
As a result, the week began with higher prices, which decreased as the harvest resumed its normal pace.If the dry weather forecast for the coming week is confirmed, prices are expected to fall.
