Brasil: fin de la cosecha en Vargem Grande (SP)

Brasil: fin de la cosecha en Vargem Grande (SP)

October 08, 2024

Last week in Brazil, potato prices varied across different markets, although the changes were not very significant. In Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, potato prices decreased, while in São Paulo, they increased.

The average price of special agate potatoes was BRL 100.70 (USD 20.00) per 25 kg sack at wholesale in São Paulo (SP), an increase of 5.33% compared to the previous week.

In Belo Horizonte (MG), there was a decrease of 9.60%, to BRL 83.46 (USD 16.57) per sack, and in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), it closed at BRL 90.90 (USD 18.04) per sack, a value 7.15% lower. The increase in São Paulo is explained by the lower influx of goods from Vargem Grande do Sul (SP), which practically ended the winter harvest this week. So far, the São Paulo region is responsible for a large part of São Paulo's wholesale supply.

In the capitals of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, the reason for the drop is that places that usually supply these plants, such as southern MG, slightly increased their supply due to planting and harvesting planning, as well as the intense heat, which continues to accelerate the harvest.

For the coming weeks, the trend is upward, as the supply tends to decrease across the country with the end of the winter harvest.
