Agronico has entered into an agreement for Simplot to acquire the business and property assets of Agronico, Tasmania’s largest seed potato producer, subject to regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).

Agronico was established by Julian Shaw in 1985 and is a proud Tasmanian family owned company and one of the largest seed potato producers in Australia. Agronico is one of a few large-scale Australian suppliers of minitubers, relating to both proprietary and non-proprietary varieties and is the only supplier using hydroponics for improved yield. Agronico produce nearly a quarter of a million minitubers and 8,000 tonnes of seed potatoes annually.

Judith Shaw announced the decision to sell.

Judith Shaw:

"Julian built this business with a passion for Tasmanian agriculture and a focus on research and development over 35 years, and we are confident that Simplot will continue his commitment and legacy."

"I’d like to acknowledge the contribution of our employees whose skills and commitment have been instrumental in our business success over the years. Simplot’s values align closely with ours and the organisation provides many opportunities for career growth and development."

"It is especially pleasing for Agronico to be joining an organisation that is clearly invested in the long-term viability of Tasmania’s potato industry."
