Tummers optimizes sorting processes with new Delta Roller Spreader

February 03, 2022

Being a machine-building company that strives for continuous improvement, Tummers Food Processing Solutions recently took a closer look at its sorting processes. This critical view resulted in an improved spreading machine that improves efficiency. The specially shaped rollers of this “Delta” Roller Spreader ensure a higher return and extended maintenance intervals.

Tummers’ new spreading machine is part of their peeling process. After steam peeling, brushing, and washing, this machine spreads the product for an optical sorter that detects foreign objects and abnormalities. Due to gentle handling during spreading the products will damage less, resulting in a higher yield.

Triangular

The new Delta Roller Spreader is the result of Tummers’ pursuit for continuous improvement. The machine-building company noticed bouncing movements at previous spreading methods with hexagonally shaped rollers and decided they could do better.

Edwin Langbroek Business Development and Sales Manager at Tummers Food Processing Solutions:

"We eventually discovered that triangular rollers with a radius on the flat sides reduce the bouncing. This prevents the product from damaging and improves the supply to the optical sorting machine, reaching higher returns as a result."
Extended lifetime When fine-tuned perfectly, the triangular-shaped rollers ensure a constant gap in any position this also brings great advantages.

Edwin Langbroek:

"A constant gap prevents foreign objects like rocks and other contaminations from jamming, so the machine can keep running constantly with a reduced chance of damage. As a result, the Delta Roller Spreader has an extended lifetime with extended maintenance intervals!"
Affordability

With the Delta Roller Spreader, Tummers not only aims for a higher yield, an extended lifetime, and reduced maintenance, but also for affordability." Edwin Langbroek:

"Our previous spreading machine featured 10 rollers, but for the new design 7 rollers are sufficient for a perfect spreading."

"The Delta Roller Spreader, therefore, consists of fewer parts than the previous model and due to a special production method for the rollers, this machine can also compete very well price-wise."
Diversity of products

Tummers’ new Delta Spreader is available with 3 different gaps between the rollers, depending on the smallest product to be spread. The machine is available with a capacity of up to 60 tonnes per hour and features Foodline SKF bearings that meet the latest standards of food safety.

The machine is commonly used to transport potatoes from a screw transportation system to an optical sorter but is suitable for a variety of food products.
