Norway expects larger potato harvest this year

September 25, 2020

Test digs in week 35 is cause for optimism among Norwegian potato farmers. Forecasts estimate the national potato harvest to be 15% higher than last year. And 11% higher than the 2002-2019 average.

The Norwegian Agricultural Council expects larger harvests in particularly Eastern Norway and the Oslo area. In some western and northern regions, yields will probably be lower than in 2019.

It's a good year for quality too. The Norwegian Agricultural Council believes more than 93% of the marketable potatoes can be classified as Class I. Potato variety Beate is the exception, with only 86% being Class I.
