In New Zealand, produce company T&G is launching a new brand of low carb potatoes with the memorable name 'Lotatoes'.

Low carb potatoes have been launched before in Australia in 2011 as well as in Ontario, Canada in 2016, both of the potato variety Carisma

However, T&G reportedly have 'naturally bred' their own potato variety using different varieties of potato. Lotatoes™ are grown sustainably on rolling farmlands in Pukekohe and Ohakune, according to the company.

Andrew Keaney, Executive General Manager T&G New Zealand:

“Lotatoes™ have 40% less carbs and less calories than other commonly available potato varieties (Rua and Agria), they’re nutritious, delicious and have lower carbs and calories.”

“We’re really excited to help Kiwis to bring their love of potatoes back to the dinner table with this new healthy option.”

The company describes Lotatoes™ as "A versatile potato with a creamy melt in your mouth taste with just 9.8gms of carbohydrates per 100gms. Lotatoes™ can be enjoyed in many ways; try them boiled, baked or mashed, keep their skin on for added fibre."

Look out for Lotatoes™ in selected supermarkets in Auckland and the upper North Island in New Zealand.
