A fire chief credits quick action by employees for a short interruption of work at a McCain potato processing plant in Plover, Wisconsin.

A fire broke out just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday at McCain Foods between Plover and Wisconsin Rapids on Highway 54.

Plover Fire Chief Mark Deaver says the workers did a good job containing the fire to a fryer underneath a hood. Damage was minimal, and he said the interruption was expected to be very short while a cleanup was to take place.

The plant was evacuated before firefighters arrived. No one was hurt.

This is the time of year when McCain Foods - Plover is in full production. It handles 25 semi-truck loads of potatoes each day, with about 40,000 pounds per truck.
