From Wednesday 5 to Friday 7 February 2014 Agrico exhibited at Fruit Logistica in Berlin. During this major and well-attended international trade show, Agrico presented its extensive range of seed and table potatoes.

Under Agrico’s Fruit Logistica theme of “Say Choice”, the company demonstrated that choosing Agrico is not just a responsible choice, but one that offers lots of choice. With a wide range of varieties, Agrico offers both growers an excellent spread of risk and buyers a wide range of taste, cooking types, price, packaging and processing possibilities.

During the second day of the show on Thursday 6 February, Agrico held a festive reception on its stand – together with its subsidiaries and partners - to celebrate its enduring presence in the potato sector. One of the most recent results of this collaboration is the implementation and embedding of the ISO 26000 standard within Agrico and, subsequently, within the subsidiaries.

Agrico was inspired to achieve this by its French subsidiary Desmazières which has been the driver for this process within the Agrico Group for some time.

As a Thank You for this major contribution, Managing Director Jan van Hoogen raised a toast to Desmazières and to the example being followed within the sector.

Choosing sustainability is nothing new for Agrico. For more than 40 years Agrico has been choosing continuity, not just in the form of long-term relationships with growers, breeders, partners and clients but also in the form of varieties fit for the future.

When developing varieties one needs a long-term vision - choosing varieties that are suitable for changing climate conditions, the needs of new cultivation techniques and changing markets. During the trade show Agrico placed three examples of thee varieties in the spotlight.

The well-known variety, Agata, has for many years proven that Agrico’s range of varieties is enduring and fit for the future. This table variety has been one of the most successful Agrico table varieties from the very beginning.

In addition, the firm also highlighted the Fontane variety, a young variety that is becoming increasingly popular in the chip market and which is ideal for the requirements of the current market.

Finally, from the latest generation of varieties Agrico presented Carolus, which is a very promising consumer variety. Due to its multiple resistance against Phytophthora and its excellent consumer qualities, it is ideal for both the organic and conventional market. The guests were treated to three tasty and freshly-prepared snacks made from all three varieties so they could choose for themselves the variety they found the most delicious.

“Agrico can look back on yet another successful show”, says Jan van Hoogen. He emphasised that “the success of the Agrico Group is in part thanks to our subsidiaries. We work together to develop pioneering initiatives, keep the organisation focused and on a steady course, and that’s something which is very appropriate for our cooperative roots.”
