Sensor-based sorting system designer and manufacturer TOMRA Sorting Solutions has announced the appointment of Volker Rehrmann as its new head.

Volker Rehrmann joined TOMRA Sorting Solutions’ Norwegian parent company, TOMRA Systems ASA, in 2004 when it acquired TITECH group where he held the position as technical director. Prior to being appointed head of TOMRA Sorting Solutions, Volker was technical director of TOMRA Sorting Solutions, responsible for Technology and Operations.

Commenting on the appointment, TOMRA Systems ASA president and CEO, Stefan Ranstrand, said: “Volker Rehrmann will lead and continue to develop TOMRA Sorting Solutions as a leading player in the development of sensor-based solutions and deliver a strong contribution to our vision of leading the resource revolution.”

Volker Rehrmann has a doctorate in computer vision from the University of Koblenz, where he also worked as an assistant professor. In 1998, he co-founded the company Real Vision Systems, which was acquired by TITECH in 2002.

In addition to his role as head of TOMRA Sorting Solutions, Volker Rehrmann will remain group Chief Technology Officer for TOMRA Systems ASA. Founded in 1972 and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, TOMRA Systems ASA has a turnover around €550m and employs over 2,200 people.
