KMC launches clean label potato starch for use in low fat spreads
October 07, 2013
KMC launches a new clean label potato starch developed for use in low fat spreads. NatureBind 1341 is E number free and allows producers to make dairy free spreads. In addition, NatureBind 1341 offers price stability and interesting cost reductions compared to other stabilizer solutions.

Low fat spread typically has a fat content of 40% or lower. Hydrocolloids are added to the water phase to stabilize the low fat spread during production, storage and use. Traditionally gelatin, pectin and alginates have been used. However, prices on these hydrocolloids are high and fluctuating. Starch is therefore a good alternative to reduce and stabilize costs.

NatureBind 1341 is an E number free potato starch developed for stabilization of the water phase of low fat spread. It can be used in recipes without skimmed milk powder thus allowing producers to make a 100% vegetable based spread.

Using NatureBind 1341 will give you a smooth and stable emulsion with excellent flavor release without compromising spreadability.
