Portugal: Potato and cabbage cultivations destroyed by frosts and drought

February 23, 2012
Hundreds of hectares of potato and cabbage production are partially destroyed by the lack of water and the frosts in western Portugal, where farmers are still calculating the damage, as reported last Friday by the West Professional Horticulture Association.

The president of the association, António Gomes, said to the news agency Lusa that 1,000 to 1,500 of the 2,500 hectares of potato in several villages of the Lourinhã province are "partially destroyed", due to "frosts and lack of water".
