South Canterbury potato growers look to be digging up a bumper crop this season as harvesting gets well underway. The region has about 35 growers, growing a variety of commercial varieties.
Potatoes New Zealand business manager Ron Gall said it had been a fantastic growing season with most yields above average.
The wet summer masked the impact of psyllid, which thrives in hot, dry weather. Growers had not had a such a summer for four years, Mr Gall said.
