Saratoga Springs Mayor to proclaim August 24th is "Saratoga Specialties Original Saratoga Chip Day"

Saratoga Specialties Company is excited to announce that Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott T. Johnson will proclaim that August 24th is “Saratoga Specialties Original Saratoga Chip Day”.

A presentation is set to be made on the steps of City Hall in Saratoga Springs, New York at 11:00 a.m. on August 24th by the Honorable Mayor Scott T. Johnson.

This day will mark the 158th anniversary of the invention of the Saratoga Chip by George Crum at Moons Lake House on Saratoga Lake.

The proclamation also recognizes the considerable efforts, achievements, and successes by Saratoga Specialties Company in reintroducing the Original Saratoga Chip in its original packaging to the nationwide consumer market.

“We all are very honored and humbled by this gesture”, said Danny Jameson, President of Saratoga Specialties Company. “We already feel like the city of Saratoga Springs has given us so much in terms of support, acceptance, and incredible growth!”.

Saratoga Specialties Company would like to invite family, friends, fans, and media to join them at City Hall on the 24th of August at 11:00 a.m.. As gesture of gratitude to the city and its residents, the first one hundred people to attend will receive a FREE snack box of Original Saratoga Chips as well as a sample of the new “For Goodness Shakes” seasonings.

Saratoga Specialties Company has reintroduced the Moon Brand Original Saratoga Chips™ in a reproduction of the original packaging from 1853. The Saratoga Chips are hand crafted in individual batches by gourmet artisans just as they were originally. WHEREAS, SARATOGA SPECIALTIES, has successfully reintroduced the Original Saratoga Chips, as originally made at Moon’s Lake House in 1853;and

WHEREAS, SARATOGA CHIPS were the original potato chip that helped launch a multi-billion dollar a year industry in the snack food business. Saratoga Chips were originally made by a cook, George Crum, at Moon’s Lake House in Saratoga Springs on August 24, 1853. After a disgruntled guest sent back their French fries twice because they were too thick, Crum decided to show the guest by making the fries paper-thin. The guest loved the potato slices and soon the chips became a success in the restaurant. When Moon opened his own restaurant he placed baskets of the Saratoga Chips on each table. Soon the chips were found in restaurants up and down the East Coast. This is how the snack food industry was launched;and

WHEREAS, SARATOGA SPECIALTIES, ORIGINAL SARATOGA CHIPS are now distributed in a box that is an exact replica to the original Saratoga Chip box found at the Saratoga Springs History Museum in the Canfield Casino and the chips are made using George Crum’s original Saratoga Chip recipe;and

WHEREAS, The Original Saratoga Chips are now distributed nationwide and the packaging tells the story of how the potato chip originated in our city of Saratoga Springs

NOW THEREFORE, I, Scott T. Johnson, Mayor of the City of Saratoga Springs, proudly join my fellow Saratogians in honoring Saratoga Specialties, by proclaiming this August 24, 2011 as

SARATOGA SPECIALTIES, ORIGINAL SARATOGA CHIP DAY

in the City of Saratoga Springs.
