The HZPC trading company in Joure, the Netherlands, has held a seminar for an international gathering of representatives from European supermarket chains and retail packers of fresh potatoes with the title “The International Fresh Potato (R)evolution”.
The seminar, attended by 200 people from 28 different countries, was organized because young consumers from 25 to 40 years of age increasingly consume more rice and pasta and have forgotten the fresh potato. The consumption of fresh potatoes is declining in various countries in Europe.
The objective of the seminar is on the one hand to obtain insight into the purchasing habits of consumers and on the other hand, as the fresh potato chain, to develop ideas together to change this behaviour in favour of the potato.
The seminar offered insights into the possible forms of communication and promotion. Additionally it was clear that consistent offer is the key to a satisfied consumer.
