BEST introduces new OPUS optical sorter for frozen vegetables
October 23, 2010

At IPA Paris, BEST (Belgium Electronic Sorting Technology) introduced the OPUS optical sorter, an all new state-of-the art free fall camera sorter with a small footprint and the ideal inspection width (1 meter) to integrate in a frozen vegetable line.

The OPUS features the new BEST camera combined with SWIR technology, exclusively developed for BEST and with an adapted spectrum, ideal for many sorting challenges. The camera features new industrial high quality BEST lenses, with an optimal focus. By developing a selected optical configuration, BEST is able to sort out foreign material, close to perfection.

This new sorter effectively detects foreign material and defects of the product itself, based on differences in colour, shape and structure. To sort on shape characteristics, it implements a general shape sorting toolbox. But it also integrates an advanced ‘template matching’ software to target stems and stalks in green beans, for instance.

The sorters’ platform is easy to use and very stable, a clear philosophy of the BEST engineering team for all their sorters.  The user friendliness of the BEST sorters is continued with a simple graphical user interface, giving the operator a comprehensive, manageable control over the machine.  The machine will soon be ready for use of OPC, so it can be integrated in the general processing control of the customers’ factory.

It is the most ideal and cost effective solution for frozen fruit or vegetable processors on the market. Through its high detection efficiency, it provides customers with very clean and safe product with a maximum yield.

The announcement of the OPUS optical sorter was in addition to a range of improvements to its existing line of optical sorters.
