At first glance, the menu at La Papa may fail to impress some jaded NYC diners. After all, it’s “just” a place that sells topped baked potatoes. But to dismiss La Papa so quickly would be doing both the restaurant, and yourself, a disservice.
Modeled after the popular Turkish fast food item kumpir, La Papa’s potatoes – even without toppings – are a sight to behold. Gigantic and fluffy, they are among the biggest baked potatoes I’ve seen. Apparently, the folks behind the restaurant did quite a bit of research, sampling all sorts of potatoes before finding a farmer in Idaho that produced potatoes to their liking.
