McCain Foods demolishes old Florenceville french fry plant

May 26, 2008

Several construction workers could be found tearing down McCain Foods’s old french fry plant earlier this week.

The company will open its new $65-million plant in Florenceville during the week of June 30, which is nearly two months ahead of schedule. Construction of the new state-of-the-art french fry plant began in the spring of 2007.

According to information released by the company, the new plant will provide greater flexibility, improved efficiencies and better capabilities. It will also use significantly less water and will continue to generate and use biogas from potato waste to reduce the use of fuel oil. A number of other environmental improvements have been built into the design and operation of the facility, including a more efficient Energy Recovery System and lighting technology.
