Fresh arrivals bring down potato prices in India

With new arrivals at mandis across the country, the potato prices have hit the rock bottom during the past one month.

According to traders, wholesale prices of potato came down by an average 40-50 per cent in various mandis over the last one month.

At Farukhabad (Uttar Pradesh), a major potato trading centre, the price slumped to Rs 260 a quintal from Rs 640 in early December.

In New Delhi prices crashed from Rs 600 to Rs 425 a quintal in December. At the retail level too, the price has come down from Rs 12-14 a kg to Rs 8-10 a kg in the same period.
