Fiji, un país del Pacífico Sur con más de 300 islas, ha estado dependiendo de las importaciones de Australia y Nueva Zelanda para la mayor parte de su suministro de patata.
Sin embargo, a partir de 2010, el gobierno se ha propuesto estimular el cultivo de la patata a nivel local, con el fin de reducir su dependencia de las importaciones.
Las patatas fritas también se producen localmente en Fiji, pero hasta ahora no se han importado.
