Lamberts Bay Foods (LBF) produces French fries and other value-added potato products at its factory in Lambert's Bay for sale to wholesalers, retailers and QSR chains. Established in 1995 as a social responsibility project to offset job losses in the region due to the decline in fishing employment opportunities in the area, the business has developed into a viable operation.
The company employs about 270 people in Lambert's Bay and is the single largest employer on the west coast north of St Helena Bay. An independent socio-economic study conducted revealed that approximately 2 250 jobs are created on a national scale through the Lambert's Bay French fries operation.
In 2016 Lamberts Bay Foods processes some 24 000 tons of potatoes per annum. Potatoes are sourced mainly from Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State and the Sandveld region of the Western Cape.
As of August 1, 2016, Lamberts Bay Foods Limited operates as a subsidiary of Famous Brands Limited, Africa’s largest branded food service franchisor. Before that date, Lambert's Bay Foods was part of the Oceana Group.
Famous brands reports in their F2018 financial results that after the acquisition of Lamberts Bay Foods, production has been ramped up by removing capacity constraints and indicates on their website (March 2019) a production capacity 1600 ton of products per months in a 13.000 square meter plant.
