20世纪50和60年代，几乎所有的芬兰农场都有种植马铃薯，供家庭和家族食用。现在不再是这种情况了，马铃薯种植已经发展成为一种专项业务。
芬兰大多数的马铃薯种植都是沿着该国西海岸进行的，当地 Ostrobothnia（在瓦萨城市周围）因其适宜的气候和土壤而成为主要种植中心。
2013年，芬兰2.21万公顷的马铃薯种植地上收获了62.17万吨马铃薯。
2011年，芬兰的年平均马铃薯产量为66.71公斤。芬兰的马铃薯品种数量超过60，比大部分其他国家多很多。马铃薯越来越多地是作为加工产品来食用的。
