NPPGA: US Potato Consumers Should See Relief Soon from high prices
August 14, 2013
US Consumers frustrated with historically high potato prices should look for some relief at the checkout lane soon when the late summer and fall crops start hitting store shelves. The base price for red potatoes topped $50 per hundredweight earlier this summer, an all time high.

Central Minnesota area growers got started shipping potatoes last week, and prices have already dropped considerably which should bring prices down in supermarkets.

A few potatoes will be dug in the Red River Valley in early September to be shipped off the field, but the harvesting of the storage crop will not start until late September or early October.
