Idaho Potato Commission to look into premium paid for Idaho spuds

July 03, 2012
The Idaho Potato Commission plans to conduct a price audit of random stores to investigate concerns that the premium customers will pay for an Idaho spud may be eroding.
The IPC will designate a week during which its four traveling retail specialists will compare Idaho prices with general prices in whatever region they happen to be visiting at the time, IPC President and CEO Frank Muir explained.
IPC commissioners said that while retailers in many cases charge more for Idaho potatoes, growers are realizing less of a premium from buyers who are paying higher freight costs.
