The former McCain Potato Processing Plant in Borden-Carleton, Prince Edward Island, will be sold to local steel company MacDougall Steel Erectors (MSE), the company and the Province announced today.

Prince Edward Island Premier Wade MacLauchlan:

“Among the Province’s primary goals is to grow the economy, expand exports and create the conditions for job growth, especially in rural parts of the province.”

“The expansion of MacDougall Steel Erectors into the former McCain’s facility positions the company to seek out larger and more lucrative contracts, expand exports, add new jobs, and continue the tremendous success of this region in the manufacturing sector.”

The Province acted as a facilitator for the sale and helped identify possible buyers for the building.

The McCain Foods plant closed in October, 2014.

At the time McCain’s set up a $2 million transition fund to be administered by Innovation PEI. Shortly thereafter a steering committee was established by Innovation PEI including representation from Borden-Carleton, the Central Development Corporation, ACOA and McCain’s to administer the fund and review applications for funding. A request for proposals for the fund will be made public on Monday, January 16, 2017.
