McCain Foods Canada names top growers Portage la Prairie

McCain Foods (Canada) honoured it's Central Plains potato producers at a dinner November 23 in Portage la Prairie. 

During the annual Growers Banquet, the Top 10 growers for the year were named. 

Anton Wiebe Ltd. was named the 2011 McCain champion potato grower for the McCain Portage plant. 

Anton Wiebe, with wife Trudy, and Sheldon Falconer, with wife Angela, of MacGregor accepted the champion grower award for Anton Wiebe Ltd. It's the third time they have won the award and have been in the Top 10 category six times. They have been growing for McCain since 1996. 

"It's still just as exciting as it was the first time,"Wiebe said. "It's quite an honour to receive this award. We feel it's an honour."

Jeffery Farms in Holland (Bill and Jane Jeffery, Curtis and Gisele Jeffery), J.P Wiebe and Sons in MacGregor (Ben and Betty Wiebe, Sheldon and Jennifer Wiebe), Beaver Creek Farms Ltd. in MacGregor (Ed and Helen Wiebe, Don and Colleen Wiebe, Stan and Nita Wiebe), Northport Potato Growers in Portage (Tom and Nancy Robinson, Gerry and Barb Gillespie, Glen and Beth Adrain) Grenville Farms in Portage ( Brian Smith), Border Farms Ltd. in Rosetown (Glen and Pat Fehr), 4-S Farms Ltd. in MacGregor (Lyn and Linda Snaith, Travis and Ginette Snatith, Garnet and Elsie Smith, Greg and Vicky Smith), Douma Farms Ltd. in Portage (Rob and Leta Douma) and Northern Potato Company Co. Ltd. in Bagot (James and Kendall Kuhl). The top 10 winners each received a $1,000 cheque for their accomplishments.
