Iran exported more potatoes last year
Iran exported more than 678,700 tons of potatoes to 17 countries in the last Iranian year (ended March 19).
The figure shows a 37.46% rise in terms of weight and a 27.92% rise in terms of value compared to the previous year.
Iraq was the biggest customer of Iranian potatoes, as it imported over 60% of the total, followed by Turkmenistan (22%) and Azerbaijan Republic (12%).
The rise in exports comes in the face of warnings by experts that since it is a water-intensive crop, potato cultivation and export are uneconomical.
