EUROPLANT Pflanzenzucht GmbH is represented again this year at PotatoEurope, the worldwide leading trade fair for potato production. The international industry event is taking place on 2 / 3 September 2015 in Kain by Tournai (Belgium). At stand T49 in the tent hall, EUROPLANT visitors will have the chance to let themselves be won over by the quality and excellent characteristics of the table potatoes on display.

“As a corporate network that is both steeped in tradition and cutting edge, PotatoEurope is a must-attend event for us. We use the trade fair as an opportunity to advertise the new varieties in our portfolio and each other questions regarding modern potato production and processing,” states Managing Director, Jörg Renatus. Among the highlights this year are the outstanding Ribera, Regina and Concordia table potatoes. EUROPLANT has also come up with the new table potatoes, Montana and Ivetta, which have quickly established themselves in the market since 2013.

As the largest propagation organisation of eco seed potatoes in Germany, EUROPLANT also has numerous organic propagation varieties on display, such as Allians, Jelly, Regina and Venezia.

Insufficient rainfall reduces potato harvest

PotatoEurope traditionally takes place at the beginning of the harvest. The yield from the previous year, which was considerably above the industry average, will not be met in any case according to EUROPLANT.

“The very dry climate was particularly troublesome for potato farmers. Nonetheless, we still expect a good harvest in 2015,” said Renatus. Following on from the unsatisfactory financial year 2014/2015, EUROPLANT expects a satisfactory performance this season.

The Lüneburg company has noted a healthy demand for export trade with the Mediterranean countries and the regions where potatoes traditionally grown earlier. “Because so many seed potatoes were sold on the market last year, farmers should order their 2015 varieties for the coming season in good time,” states Renatus.
