A controversial bid to buy public land in southern Alberta to grow potatoes has been withdrawn, Sustainable Resource Development Minister Mel Knight confirmed today.
Environmental groups and opposition politicians strongly opposed the proposal, believed to have been made by SLM Spud Farms.
No one from the company was available to immediately comment.
The bid involved purchasing 65 square kilometres of public land north of Bow Island currently used for grazing.
