Potato growers in the Ballarat region (South Australia) are continuing negotiations over pricing for the next harvest with the food processor McCain.
The chairman of the Ballarat McCain Growers Group, Dominic Prendergast, says South Australian growers are close to reaching a deal.
The company has offered Ballarat growers $45 less per tonne this year than they received for the last harvest.
But Mr Prendergast says it has indicated it could maintain last year's price if it buys 30 per cent fewer potatoes.
