Euro Potato: Northern Europe crop and market development
Heavy rainfall at the start of the second week of July has benefited parts of Northern European, where the dry conditions are affecting the whole European potato industry. Most areas have crops two weeks behind last year. New crop tuber size and yields are low, meaning that the end of maincrop trading is strong. Conditions are also dry further East, particularly in Poland, as well as Russia where there are reports of drought in Southern regions, where around 35% of total production takes place.
This report looks at early estimates of 2010 plantings across Northern Europe as well as market developments for the end of 2009/10 trading and the start of the 2010/11 season.
