Prince Edward Island's agriculture minister George Webster is raising the limit on the amount of virus allowed in this year's seed potatoes, which are used to plant the spring crop.
Webster said Tuesday that he would double the limit and set it at six per cent following a recommendation from the P.E.I. Potato Board.
Last month, members of the P.E.I. Potato Board said they would ask the provincial government to increase the cap on allowable virus in the seed after almost half were found to be above the Island's allowable virus standard.
There were concerns that farmers would have to import expensive seed potatoes from Manitoba if the government did not agree to relax the tolerance level.
