Hail Damages Thousands of Acres of Idaho Potatoes

June 26, 2009
Idaho Potato farmers are going to have to recover from another hail storm on Friday.  And many haven't recovered from the one last week.

We finally know just how damaging it was to the eastern Idaho potato crop, and the news is not good.

25-thousand acres were affected by the storm on Sunday June 21.  Of that, 12-thousand acres of spuds are severely damaged.

Photos provided by United Potato Growers show just how devastating the damage is.

Jerry Wright of United says 7 thousand acres might recover, but most of the farmers in a path from Cassia County to Bingham County will never recoup their losses this growing season.   KPVI News 6 video on the hail damage
