Lamb Weston Meijer is planning a nine-story warehouse in Wisbech, UK
December 29, 2007
The Wisbech standard reports that Lamb Weston Meijer, the Dutch potato processing company co-owned by United States-headquartered ConAgra Foods/Lamb Weston and Meijer Beheer B.V. of the Netherlands, is planning a new facility in Wisbech, United Kingdom. Lamb Weston Meijer has already a factory in Wisbech, the former Garden Isle facility that was acquired in 2006.
This is the third major french fry company that is in the news this week with investment or expansion plans related to their french fry production. Just yesterday McCain Foods announced a new french fry processing plant in the US while at the beginning of the week Simplot announced an extra shift in their Portage LaPrairie facility in Canada.
Last week a local delegation existing of Councillor Geoff Harper, leader of Fenland District Council, and his 'open for business' portfolio holder, Councillor Alan Melton, headed a five-strong delegation that paid a whistle-stop visit to a Dutch factory this week to help secure the investment.

They were accompanied on the visit to Lamb Weston's French fry factory in Roosendaal by Councillor Roger Green, leader of Wisbech Town Council, and two senior Fenland Council officials.
Plans are being drawn up for a new nine-storey warehouse to be built in the town, after councillors visited a similar site in Holland.

The storage unit would be built to store potatoes and potato products for Dutch-based firm Lamb Weston/Meijer, and would be built next to its existing factory in Wisbech industrial park

The state-of-the art cool storage facility would cost between 20 and 30 million Euros (£15 to 22 million), and would be built on the Fenland District Council- owned land off Algores Road, covering an area the size of four football pitches, with the building itself taking up half that area.
