Biofresh is a market-leader in ethical food storage and sanitisation.
Biofresh was founded in 2003 to carry out long-term research by the founding professors at Newcastle University's School of Biology into the development of safe and effective residue-free alternatives to chemical biocides used in the fresh produce industry.
The Biofresh brand was bought by Freshpallet Limited in 2011, after it was founded as a spin-out firm from the University of Newcastle.
Biofresh operates primarily in two business streams: Ozone Management Systems (used in cold room storage and transit for the food industry, as well as room sanitization and odour removal in the food industry, as well as restaurant, hotel, and residential care) and Ethylene Management Systems (used in the long-term storage of potatoes and onions).
The Biofresh Group is a UK-based company with operational centers in Huddersfield and Gateshead and its head office located in Stocksfield, Northumberland.
Joining the Biofresh Group in 2017, Ozone Direct (UK) Ltd expanded its operations to include biocidal applications outside of the fresh produce industry. For more than 15 years, Ozone Direct has been at the forefront of research and development for ozone generated odor control and elimination technologies.
