Royal Avebe's 2023-2024 potato campaign has ended
Starch manufacturer Royal Avebe has ended the 2023-2024 potato campaign
Dutch Potato Starch manufacturer Royal Avebe just processed the last potatoes of the 2023-2024 campaign at the Ter Apelkanaal production location. The last potatoes were processed in Gasselternijveen and the German production locations Dallmin and Lüchow in February. The campaign went according to plan.
Season with many challenges
Due to the wet spring, growers started planting the potatoes later than normal. This was followed by a season in which all types of weather were encountered: drought, periods of heavy rainfall and frost. It led to many additional challenges with harvesting. Unfortunately, there was also a lot of Phytopthora busy in the second half of July and August.
Average starch content 19.5 percent
Due to the regional and local highly variable growing conditions, there is a large difference in the yield of the starch potatoes. The starch content is an average of 19.5 percent. The average tare percentage – the soil that comes with the potatoes from the field to the factory – is 6.2 percent. This high percentage is due to the wet weather conditions during the harvest.
Inter-campaign: maintenance work at the factory
In the coming months there will be inter-campaign at the production locations. Maintenance work is then carried out at the factory. The season will start again for starch potato growers from mid-April and the potatoes will be planted. These potatoes are expected to be processed from mid-August, which is the start of the 2024-2025 potato campaign.
