Keith Tinsey:
"We’re trying to meet an early market because of prices or the needs of the potato chip factories for supply, and potatoes can handle cold temperatures as long as the seed piece doesn’t freeze."The farm was also planting in Michigan a year ago today, but Tinsey says it’s still a bit wet.
Keith Tinsey:
"The seed piece may not grow right away but we have a lot of acres to cover and with the rains in Michigan that might stop us—we take every opportunity when the sun is shining to go hard."Tinsey says the planting season usually wraps up before the beginning of May. Black Gold Farms grows potatoes across eight states for the chipping industry.
