Peruvian potato production increased by 21.7% in 2019
According to the 'Peru: Departmental Economic Panorama' technical report of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), which was based on information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), potato production reached 201,985 tons in August of 2019, i.e. 21.7% more than in the 2018 harvest, due to the greater harvested areas and normal temperatures.
The departments that showed positive behavior in potato production were: Huanuco (49.5%), Ica (26.4%), Arequipa (21%), and Apurimac (16.4%), which together accounted for 70.2% of the national production. In addition, production increased in Ancash (94.5%), Piura (60.7%), Lima (53.1%), Cajamarca (17%), and Huancavelica (7.9%).
However, it decreased in Moquegua (-81.5%), Ayacucho (-81.4%), Junin (-15.7%), Amazonas (-15.4%), Tacna (-11.8%) and La Libertad (-8.7%).
